Panic in Freetown as riot breaks out at Pademba Road Prisons

Murtala Moh. Kamara Prisoners inside Sierra Leone’s central Pademba Road Prison were on riot earlier Wednesday. Some of the prison facilities were set ablaze by the inmates over alleged too much #COVID19 restrictions. Gunshots were fired and one person was confirmed dead. It came three days after one of the inmates tested positive for the virus leading to the introduction of further restrictions. Officials say the situation is now under control. As usual, President Julius Maada Bio has delivered, in a general way, a message that covers all the concerns of Sierra Leoneans at this time in their lives including the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic (which has not been as devastating in Sierra Leone as in other countries) and the need for all to come together irrespective of ethnicity, political beliefs or region. Coronavirus: Africa CDC receives third donation of medical supplies from Jack Ma Foundation The Patriotic Vanguard / 2 hours ago The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) has received a third donation of medical equipment and supplies from the Jack Ma Foundation and Alibaba Foundation in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The donation is to support COVID-19 response by African Union Member States and it includes 4.6 million masks, 500,000 swabs and test kits, 300 ventilators, 200,000 sets of protective clothing, 200,000 face shields, 2,000 temperature guns, 100 body temperature scanners, and 500,000 pairs of gloves.
